What are the dates for Juneau Men’s Project?
The project runs from Thursday, May 24 through Saturday, August 6. You can arrive in Juneau anytime on May 24. It's a good idea, though, to arrive in Juneau by early evening. And you can plan on heading out anytime on Saturday, August 6. Back^

Will I have a job while I'm on project?
While on Juneau Men’s Project, every student is required to have a job as this will be used as one of your major outlets of ministry. Students can work Monday through Thursday anytime from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. The project has been going on in Juneau for the past seven summers, so multiple businesses save jobs specifically for project guys during summer. Therefore, finding a job in Juneau is not too hard but it does take time. Back^

Where will we live in Juneau?
Our project housing is on the campus of the University of Alaska Southeast. The student housing at UAS is sweet. How sweet? Check it out for yourself -- go on UAS's virtual tour of their student housing. Back^

Is this project co-ed?
No, sorry ladies. We will do some things in a co-ed environment, which we highly value, but we are a men’s project. Back^

Should I drive or fly to project?
There are two ways to arrive in Juneau: by air or by sea. Juneau is surrounded by ice fields and mountains, so there are no roads leading to Juneau. Ten to 15 flights arrive in Juneau each day from Seattle and Anchorage via Alaska Airlines. A good deal on roundtrip tickets from the Midwest generally will cost between $700 and $800.

Though, like we said, no roads lead into Juneau, you can drive -- and you should consider it. Most of the regular Juneau Summer Project students drive up. It's also cheaper to drive with three or four guys in a car. The downside? Driving adds about a week to your project, so fly if you're cramped for time.

If you plan on driving to Juneau, you'll want to book passage in advance for your vehicle on the four-hour ferry that runs between Skagway, Alaska, and Juneau once each day. You will also need to get a passport. We advise you to start this process now, as it could take a few months to complete.

Here are some tips for you if you're planning to drive to Juneau:
  • Book passage in advance for your vehicle on the ferry that runs between Skagway, Alaska, and Juneau. It's a four-hour trip that runs once per day.
  • If you don't have a passport, apply for one. Start the process now, as it could take a few months to actually receive your passport.
Students who drive to Alaska will experience what is for many a once-in-a-lifetime experience of driving the Alaska Highway (ALCAN). Typically the drive takes around 56 hours of driving time from the Midwest. Every single Juneau Men's Project alumnus who has driven to Alaska lists the drive up to Juneau as one of the highlights of their summer -- it's that amazing.

The city-borough of Juneau is located on a narrow 40-mile stretch of land carved out from the mountains that in many places drops into the sea. Our project housing is on the campus of the University of Alaska - Southeast, located around 15 miles from downtown, and five miles from the nearest grocery store. If you drive up, you will experience a great freedom of being able to do more with your free time.

Each project participant is responsible for arranging their own transportation and arriving in Juneau on Thursday, May 24, 2011. Back^
